The range switch will switch connections with high voltage or too much current for the electronic switches and then it will have an encoding to notify the multimeter chip (or MCU) what range is selected. LCD display, most multimeters uses a LCD display.LCD driver, a LCD display requires some special voltages and scanning to work.MCU, the micro controller controls everything and format the digital value for the display.Reference, a reference voltage used for voltage and current ranges.ADC, convert the analog value to a digital value.This will be a mix of resistors and computer controlled switches, it may also contain a x10 amplifier. Signal conditioning, adjust all the values the the ADC input range. It will switch signals and report actual range to the MCU.
